Session and Workshop Details
Sessions
What’s new with you? Ask this question of almost anyone, and she will have something to share. Job changes, relationship changes, changes in location, changes at church, financial changes, health changes— seemingly every month brings a new set of circumstances into our lives. And with those changes comes the temptation to anxiety, discontentment, or doubt. During this conference, we’ll consider how to navigate life’s changes in light of God’s grace. We’ll discuss the source of changes and the purpose of changes, and then we’ll apply this to how we can encourage and help one another as we are together changed for the glory of God.
Session 1: God: The Unchanging Author of Change
Often, when changes come into our lives our first response is to act like there’s been a mistake. The change is unexpected and seemingly without purpose, and so we feel ourselves getting anxious or frustrated. In this session, we will see that the changes that come into our lives are brought by an unchanging God in whom we can trust. To do this, we will look at the example of Mary.
Session 2: Holiness: The Unfading Goal of Change
Although they might seem like random twists, unexpected roadblocks, and odd detours, all the little changes in our lives are adding up to something bigger. The God Who brings these trials doesn’t change. But we do. And this is a very good thing. In every change we encounter He is making us holy. He is making us like Christ. To understand this better, we will look at Peter’s words to the persecuted and scattered church in his first epistle.
Session 3: Church: Our Constant Companion in Change
In this session, we are going to see that the Lord has provided the church to be our constant companion in seasons of change. As we encounter turmoil, upheaval, trials, and changes in our lives, it’s the body of Christ who is one of God’s good gifts to us to encourage us in these changes. To do this, we are going to look at the example of Paul and the Philippian church.
Workshop:
Rev. Bob Van Manen, pastor of Little Farms Chapel in Marne, MI, will be leading Saturday’s workshop. As has been customary, he plans to unveil the truths about a lesser-known woman in the Bible who is strong in faith and character.
